Lucas and the hooded female sat on a log, staring out over a lake. The stars and moon reflected off the water like crystal. Neither looked at each other, and as the minutes ticked by, neither spoke. The only sound was the occasional fish nipping at the water’s surface. Both knew what brought them together again, and both believed they knew the ramifications of Lucas’s decision.

“You told her,” the hooded figure stated, staring over the rippling water.

“I did.”

“As soon as she accepts it, you must take her to Susan. Precautions must be taken.”

“Will she accept it?”

There was a short silence before the unknown woman spoke, “I don’t know.”

Lucas nodded, his eyes pained. He’d made the necessary sacrifice; the rest was no longer up to him.
